Below are reviews for the new Panasonic TX-P42G20 Plasma TV:
'Panasonic G20 builds on Panasonic’s design tradition, and although the TV is a bit thinner in 2010 Panasonic has kept the glossy black look with round and soft edges. On the other hand most of you consumers out there will probably be pleased by the fact the G20 has no active fans on the back.
G20 has most of the picture characteristics from previous models and that’s not a bad thing at all. G20 is an improvement compared to G10 but it’s not a revolution. The THX mode ensures very nice picture quality and very accurate color reproduction - even better than the V10 model from 2009.
All in all, I must say that Panasonic G20 is a lovely TV. It is no revolution, and although expectations were very high, I think G20 is a worthy successor to the much acclaimed G10. Panasonic has introduced image quality improvements and the THX mode is great but we miss better black level reproduction.
When you take the price into consideration that is not far from the current price on G10, as well as the picture quality improvements and the new functionality, Panasonic G20 looks like a winner once again. We therefore award the G20 series with our Highly Recommended Award.'
'I had ambient lighting in the room. Tuned in to ITV HD on built in Freesat, stuck it on THX and sat back in jaw dropping disbelief. Superb. The whites of the Egypt players shirts were brilliant white. Picture detail fantastic.
On the blacks I can only say that true black looks black to me. Example:-
This morning on GMTV there was a live broadcast outside No.10. The infamous black door over the reporter's shoulder looked blacker than the bezel around the panel of the TV.
I have never seen a Pioneer Kuro, and as I've already said the V20 may be better when it is launched, but I can say is that this TV is an improvement on the V10, and I would have been happy to buy one of those.'
'Just got mine up and running and all I can say is wow. Put on a blu-ray (x-men last stand) and normal dvd through my ps3 (cars) and the picture was awesome, best blacks ive seen so far .... even got a comment from the gf saying that it was some picture.'
AV FORUM REVIEW:
Last year, the original Panasonic G-Series NeoPDP displays brought us deep blacks and contrast performance previously unheard of at their price range. The TX-P42G20 doesn’t reinvent the wheel and still has some flaws, most notably with colour accuracy, but it is a considerable improvement on last year’s G10 models in just about every conceivable way. Most importantly of all, the TX-P42G20 is excellent in its own right - the many advantages afforded by the NeoPDP panel outweigh a few negatives. If you’re used to highly accurate colour reproduction already but are looking for a new display, then you may want to wait and see what Panasonic’s higher end models have to offer in this department (I would be less forgiving of such quirks at higher price points). On the other hand, if you’d like an excellent, feature-laden TV at an excellent price, Panasonic’s TX-P42G20 is a great choice, and is certainly a welcome alternative to the slew of lower quality LCD displays which typically occupy this area of the market.
